Russian Parliament is a bicameral legislative body. It consists of two chambers: Upper House (Federation Council) and Lower House (State Duma).
The State Duma is comprised of 450 deputies.
At the last elections to the Duma in December 2007, the United Russia party, led by President Vladimir Putin, won 315 seats, KPRF has 57 seats, LDPR has 40 seats, and Fair Russia has 38 mandates. Compared to the results of the previous Duma elections in Dec 2003, only United Russia has managed to improve its support, with a very impressive increase from 37.57% in 2003 to 63.3% in 2007. These results give United Russia a two-thirds constitutional majority and confirm the Kremlin’s dominance of domestic politics.
