Born on July 17, 1949 in Leningrad
1971, graduated from Leningrad State University named after Zhdanov A.A.
1971-1991, scientific work at the Ioffe Physicotechnical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Leningrad.
1991-1993, Vice President, AO “Advanced Technologies and Developments Center”.
1994-2001, Director, Regional Fund of Scientific and Technical Development of St-Petersburg.
2000, appointed Chairman of the scientific council of “Strategic Development Center “South - West” fund.
Nov 2001-Jun 2002, Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of Russia.
Jun 2002-Dec 2003, First Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology.
Dec 2003 – Feb 2004, acting Minister of Industry, Science and Technology.
March 9, 2004, appointed by President Putin as a Minister of Education and Science in Michail Fradkov’s Government.
In May 2004, after re-election of Vladimir Putin the new Government was formed. Mr Fursenko retained his seat and currently serves as a Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
