Unified National Movement Party
Main Structure
Back
Unified National Movement Party - pro-presidential, governing party. It was created as an opposition power - “Peace Saving National Movement” acting mainly in Tbilisi. But later it became a governing party with a wide chain of local representative offices in the Regions of Georgia and was renamed to “Unified National Movement”.

The party gained its main political power during the Rose Revolution (November 2003) when Saskazhvili, Zurab Zhvaniya and Nino Burjanadze joined to create a political alliance.
After the official merger of the National Movement Party (Saakashvili’s Party) and the United Democrats Party (Zhvaniya – Burjanadze alliance) in 2004 the new renamed Unified National Movement Party became the biggest Party in the Parliament (currently occupies 99 seats).
Nino Burjanadze officially is not a member of the Party but still plays a significant role in its policy and considered to be one of its ideological leaders.

Membership: 70,000 (as of 2004).
