The Parliament (Zhogorku Kenesh) of Kyrgyzstan is a unicameral Parliament which consists of 90 seats. All of them are distributed via party lists with a 5% threshold. The party, which occupies over 50% of total seats, nominates the Prime Minister.
Last election (early parliamentary elections) were held in Dec 2007 after the adoption of the new constitution. Majority of seats were occupied by pro-president party Ak Zhol (71 out of 90 seats). Two other political parties, which have managed to overcome a 5% threshold, are also considered to be loyal to president Bakiev. Thus, non of the radical opposition parties are presented in the contemporary parliament.
