The Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan is a bicameral legislative body. It consists of two chambers: Upper House (Senate) and Lower House (Majilis).
Under the amended constitution, the Lower House (Majilis) is comprised of 107 deputies. 98 seats are awarded on the basis of a party-list proportional representation system and nine deputies are elected by the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan.
Last elections were held on 18 Aug 2007. These were ere extraordinary elections, conducted in order to endorse amendments to the constitution adopted earlier in 2007.

During the parliamentary elections, conducted in Kazakhstan on 18 Aug 2007, the pro-presidential Nur Otan party received 88% of the votes. As none of other competing parties managed to pass through the 7% threshold, Nur Otan is the only party in Kazakhstan's lower house of parliament.
