Parliament (Oliy Majlis) of Uzbekistan: Lower House (Legislative Chamber) Main Structure Back The Supreme Assembly (Oliy Majlis) of Uzbekistan is a bicameral Parliament. It consists of two chambers: an Upper House (Senate) and a Lower House (Legislative Chamber). A Lower House (Legislative Chamber) of the Parliament of Uzbekistan consists of 120 members (deputies). All 120 member are elected by the direct vote - majority system and serve a five year term. Elections to the Legislative Chamber were last held in December 2004. Next Parliamentary Election will be held in 2009. Only 5 political parties are officially registered in Uzbekistan. All of them are presented in the contemporary Parliament and all 5 are considered to be a pro-governmental parties. Opposition parties (Birlik, Erk and Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan) are prohibited and have no official registration in the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan. None of the them are presented in the contemporary Parliament.
