The Supreme Assembly (Oliy Majlis) of Uzbekistan is a bicameral Parliament. It consists of two chambers: an Upper House (Senate) and a Lower House (Legislative Chamber). An Upper House (Senate) of the Parliament is a chamber of the territorial representation and consists of 100 members (Senators).
  • 84 Senators are elected by regional legislature — six representatives from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, 6 from each of 12 Uzbekistan’s Regions and 6 from the city of Tashkent.
  • 16 Senators are appointed directly by the President of Uzbekistan from among the most authoritative citizens with large practical experience and special merits in the sphere of science, art, literature, manufacture and other spheres of state and public activity.
